Bridging the Gap Between Classroom Learning and Industry Practice
The Department of Civil Engineering, Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (VJIT), Hyderabad, organized an insightful Industry Visit to TEN GEOSYSTEMS, Dundigal, Medchal, Hyderabad, on 10th September 2026. The visit was conducted in association with the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Student Chapter and the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) Student Chapter.
The visit provided students with valuable practical exposure to the production, properties, processing, and real-world applications of geosynthetics in Geotechnical Engineering. It offered an opportunity for students to observe modern industrial practices and gain a deeper understanding of concepts discussed in the classroom.
Key Learning Highlights
During the visit, students gained practical insights into:
- Features, types, importance, and applications of various geosynthetic products
- Processing of geostrips and their characteristics
- Performance requirements as per relevant codes and standards
- Installation of geostrips in layers behind wall facings
- Role of geostrips in providing tensile strength and reinforcing soil
- Interaction between soil and reinforcement as a composite system
- Properties, durability, installation methods, and applications of geosynthetics
- Modern construction technologies and their applications in Geotechnical Engineering
Mr. Srinivas, Managing Partner, TEN GEOSYSTEMS, interacted with the students and explained the technical aspects, manufacturing processes, and practical applications of geosynthetic products. His interaction helped students gain a better understanding of how geosynthetics are used to address various challenges in contemporary geotechnical and construction projects.
The industrial exposure enabled students to connect their classroom knowledge of Geotechnical Engineering with real-world industrial practices, thereby strengthening their technical understanding and practical skills.
Strengthening Industry-Oriented Learning
The visit significantly enhanced students’ awareness of the growing role of geosynthetics in modern Geotechnical Engineering and provided them with firsthand exposure to industry practices, product applications, and construction techniques.
