Introduction
The IEEE Student Branch, Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (VJIT), in association with the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), successfully organized an online webinar on “Wearable Antennas: Design Challenges and Applications” on 12th April 2026.
The webinar brought together students, faculty members, IEEE members, and researchers with an interest in antenna engineering, wearable electronics, and wireless communication technologies. The session provided valuable insights into the design principles, challenges, and emerging applications of wearable antenna systems that are shaping the future of healthcare, defense, and smart wearable technologies.
Objectives of the Webinar
The webinar was organized with the following objectives:
- To introduce participants to the fundamentals of wearable antenna technology.
- To explain the design challenges associated with flexible and textile-based antennas.
- To familiarize students with material selection and antenna miniaturization techniques.
- To create awareness of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and human safety considerations.
- To highlight the growing applications of wearable antennas in healthcare, defense, and Internet of Things (IoT) systems.
- To encourage students to pursue research in antenna engineering, flexible electronics, and wireless communication.
Welcome Address
The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. P. Nageswara Rao, Senior IEEE Member, IEEE Student Branch Counsellor, VJIT. He emphasized the significance of emerging wireless communication technologies and encouraged students to actively participate in IEEE activities and explore research opportunities in antenna design and advanced communication systems.
Technical Session
The technical session was delivered by Dr. Sulakshana Chilukuri, Chair of the IEEE MTT-S/AP-S/EMC-S Joint Chapter, IEEE Hyderabad Section, who shared her expertise in wearable antennas, microwave engineering, electromagnetic compatibility, and flexible electronics.
