ENGG Workshop, I Year –I&II sem

Description: Engineering workshop laboratory is to familiarize the students with basics of house wiring and basic manufacturing processes such as welding, carpentry, fitting, tin smithy, and to study the various tools and equipment used; hands-on training is given in different sections. Essentially student will understand how the labour involved, machinery or equipment necessary, time required to fabricate and also should be able to estimate the cost of the product or job work.

Outcome of the Lab:

Upon the completion of this laboratory course, the students will be able to

  • fabricate components with their own hands.
  • They will also get practical knowledge of the dimensional accuracies and dimensional tolerances possible with different manufacturing processes.
  • By assembling different components they will be able to produce small devices of their own interest.

Metallurgy and Mechanics of solids Lab, II Year I Sem

Description: The laboratory is established with computerized universal testing machine to determine micro strains using standard specimen along with compression, torsion, spring and deflection test rigs. Possessing unique trinocular video microscope supported by sufficient number of binocular microscopes along with specimen preparation and standard comparison ASME grain size specimens.

Outcome of the Lab: Upon the completion of the lab , students should be able to

  • Understand and identify microstructure of metals and measure their mechanical properties.
  • Analyze the microstructure and mechanical properties of metals by applying metallurgical principles.
  • Compare the hardness and mechanical properties of treated and untreated steels tested.

Production Technology Lab, II Year I Sem

Description:The production technology Laboratory course aims to impart the knowledge about various manufacturing processes. It deals with experiments on metal casting, metal forming plastic molding and metal joining processes. After this course, a student will have a good exposure about the manufacturing processes and various operations and machinery. This also gives the recent trends in these processes also.

Outcome of the Lab: Upon the completion of the lab , students should be able to

  • Understand the operating methods of welding mechanical press and moulding machines.
  • Measuring the properties of moulding sand.
  • Evaluate the quality of welded joints and products made by mechanical press.

Mechanics of Fluids and Hydraulic Machines Lab, II Year II Sem

Description:This laboratory deals with experiments that will demonstrate the basics idea of fluid mechanics principles and make the students to learn the various application of the hydraulic machines. The laboratory has a mission to offer the potentials for Practical Works and demonstrations to make the students to understand the practical. By the introductions as well as providing the Research facilities in the lab, this Laboratory caters to the needs of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Students for the subject of Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machinery. The Laboratory is equipped with a large number of equipment and experimental Setups in order to study the fundamental and applied aspects of Hydraulics machineries.

Outcome of the Lab: Upon the completion of the lab , students should be able to

  • Understanding the operating steps of machines.
  • Measuring the performance of hydraulic machines under different loads.
  • Evaluate the parameters discharge, friction and compared with theoretical values.
  • Measure fluid flow using Venturi meter and Orifice meter

Thermal Engineering lab, III Year I Sem

Description:The objective of this lab is to understand the basic principles in the areas of internal combustion engines, boilers and Refrigeration systems to under graduate and Post graduate students through a series of experiments. In this lab the experiments are performed to measure performance parameters of the systems such as Brake power, Efficiency, Torque , COP, mass of fuel.

Outcome of the Lab: Upon the completion of the lab, students should be able to

  • Analyze the output responses of the IC engines by applying thermodynamic principles.
  • Understand the assembly/disassembly and their working of IC engines for performance measurement.
  • Evaluate performance parameters for consequnt applications.

Metrology and Machine tools lab, III Year II Sem

Description:
Metrology and machine tools lab makes the students to get hands on experience & understand the working principles of various machine tools and also such as lathe , Drilling, milling, shaping , grinding machines, slotting machine. Student will be able to learn about different alignment techniques and perform various job Operations on machine tools. · This practical course covers the topics related to precession measuring instruments & also makes the students, Exposure to various measuring systems using précised instruments.

Outcome of the Lab: Upon the completion of the lab, students should be able to

  • Identify suitable instrument for measuring dimensions and surface roughness of a given component.
  • Perform alignment and flatness tests on given machine and component.
  • Perform wear resistance test and know the usage of tool makers microscope.
  • Operate lathe, milling machines, drilling machine, grinding machines.
  • Select suitable machining operation to fabricate the required product from the given raw material

Heat Transfer Lab, III Year II Sem

Description:Heat Transfer laboratory provides fundamental and industrial knowledge about modes of heat transfer, like conduction, convection and radiation, and their application. Heat transfer laboratory has various equipment for the study of three basic heat transfer phenomena i.e., conduction, convection and radiation practically. This laboratory is equipped with Lagged Pipe Apparatus, Composite Wall Apparatus, Emissivity Measurement Apparatus, Pin-Fin Apparatus, Natural Convection Apparatus, Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger, Stefan-Boltzmann Apparatus, Parallel Flow Counter Flow Heat Exchanger, Critical Heat Flux Apparatus, Two Phase Flow Apparatus and Heat Pipe.

Outcome of the Lab: Upon the completion of the lab, students should be able to

  • Understand the structural features of heat transfer equipment and their mode of working
  • Analyze the output responses by comparing with the heat transfer governing equations.
  • Evaluate the process parameters for designing the heat transfer devices.

Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing Lab, IV Year I Sem

Description:
Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing Lab involves design &analysis of various mechanical components using both 2D and 3D Software’s, and manufacture the required part. The lab is available to graduate the students in the fields of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing.

For the designed part student generates NC program with different CAM software packages, simulates the program for validation and manufactures parts with CNC machines. The CNC machines available in the laboratory can be utilized for advanced manufacturing research.

Outcome of the Lab:  Upon the completion of the lab, students should be able to

  • Understand the usage of relevant software and the syntax of CNC part program.
  • Develop the 2D, 3D models and conduct the analysis.
  • Evaluate the veracity between manual part program and the automated part program.

Production Drawing practice and Instrumentation lab, IV Year I Sem

Description:Production drawing practice and instrumentation lab deals in understanding the working principles along with advantages, disadvantages and applications of various measuring instruments. This lab facilitates the students to understand calibration procedures which includes experiments on calibrations, can be used to determine the error present in instruments. Student can learn in detail about how to measure displacement, temperature, pressure, level, flow, acceleration, vibration, strain, humidity, and their appropriate applications.

The course also focuses on Production Drawing Practice which can be used to Apply the drawing techniques to draw various part and assembly drawings, indicate tolerances, roughness, conventional representation of different materials used in engineering practice like wood, glass, metal etc., and the limits and tolerances.

Outcome of the Lab:Upon the completion of the lab, the students should be able to

  • Understanding the symbols and their representation on drawings.
  • Calibrate the measuring devices and analyze the errors in measurement.
  • Evaluate the instruments in terms of accuracy and precision.
