The Department of Civil Engineering at Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (VJIT), Hyderabad, is proud to announce the remarkable achievement of its II Year Civil Engineering students, Mr. Ashwaque Ahmad and Mr. Cheerla Praveen Sagar, who secured Third Prize in the Poster Presentation Event at SHILP 3.0 – Engineer’s Arena, an intra-college Civil Engineering Fest organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, ACE Engineering College, Hyderabad, on 10th and 11th September 2026.

Innovative Poster Presentation

The students presented their innovative concept titled “Floating Concrete Using Lightweight Materials”, exploring the potential of lightweight concrete for sustainable and specialized construction applications. Their project highlighted how materials such as Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) beads and lightweight aggregates can be incorporated to reduce the dead load of structures and develop concrete mixes with enhanced buoyancy.

The concept showcased potential applications in areas such as:

  • Reduction of structural dead load
  • Floating docks and boat platforms
  • Marine and waterfront construction
  • Floating bridges and platforms
  • Construction in waterlogged areas
  • Lightweight structures such as sheds and warehouses

Through their innovative approach, the students demonstrated how fundamental civil engineering principles can be translated into practical and sustainable solutions for emerging construction needs.

Recognition and Achievement

The students’ efforts were recognized with the Third Prize and a cash award of ₹1,000, bringing pride to the Department of Civil Engineering and VJIT.

The achievement reflects the students’ creativity, technical understanding, teamwork, and commitment to exploring innovative engineering solutions.
