The Department of Humanities & Sciences at VJIT(A) proudly organized an insightful guest lecture titled “Photonics at the Frontiers: Linking Communication, Defence and Space” on 07 February 2026 under the banner of SPIE–VJIT Student Chapter.
The session was delivered by Dr. K. Nithyanandan, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad. In his engaging and thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Nithyanandan highlighted the transformative role of photonics in shaping next-generation technologies across communication networks, defence systems, and space exploration. He elaborated on how light-based technologies are revolutionizing high-speed data transmission, advanced sensing systems, laser-based defence mechanisms, and satellite communications.
The lecture provided students with valuable exposure to cutting-edge research domains and real-world applications of photonics, bridging the gap between academic concepts and industrial advancements. His presentation not only deepened conceptual understanding but also inspired students to explore emerging research opportunities in optics and photonic sciences.
The program was conducted under the guidance of SPIE Advisor Dr. M. Anand and was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Mahesh, SPIE Coordinator, VJIT. The event was graciously chaired by HoD Prof. K. Lakshmi Narayan and Senior Professor Prof. Sarah, whose presence added academic significance and encouragement to the occasion.
The lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from SPIE student members and faculty, followed by an interactive discussion session where students actively engaged with the speaker, clarifying concepts and discussing future prospects in photonics research.
The event successfully achieved its objective of fostering awareness, curiosity, and academic interest in advanced photonics among engineering students, further strengthening VJIT’s commitment to promoting research-driven learning and technological excellence.
