Survey on Income Generation Activities Among Women in Aziznagar Village

On 9th April 2021, the Women’s Empowerment Cell and NSS Unit of VJIT conducted a field survey in Aziznagar Village to assess the status of income-generating activities among rural women. This initiative was part of a broader commitment to understanding the economic challenges faced by women and identifying opportunities for sustainable development and empowerment at the grassroots level.

The primary objective of the survey was to explore the types of income-generating activities women are currently engaged in and to assess the extent of their involvement. The survey also aimed to gain insights into the barriers that restrict women from actively participating in economic activities, which in turn affect their quality of life and independence.

Findings from the survey revealed that participation in income-generating activities among women is limited, often due to social norms, lack of education, limited access to resources, and household responsibilities. Many women were found to be involved in low-income, labor-intensive tasks that offer minimal financial returns. These limitations hinder their ability to contribute meaningfully to household income and improve their own living standards.

Another critical observation was the nutritional disparity between men and women in the village. Women, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds, face more pronounced nutritional challenges, which are directly linked to their financial dependency and lack of access to healthcare and awareness.

The survey highlighted the urgent need to create avenues for women’s economic participation. It emphasized that improving women’s income levels is essential not only for their personal development but also for enhancing their confidence, autonomy, and overall household well-being. Financial independence empowers women to make informed decisions, support their families more effectively, and contribute to the socio-economic development of their communities.

The Women’s Empowerment Cell and NSS Unit at VJIT are now working on plans to introduce skill development and income generation programs in Aziznagar Village. These programs aim to equip women with practical skills that can help them establish self-sustaining enterprises or gain meaningful employment, thereby fostering long-term empowerment and community development.

This survey serves as a foundation for action-oriented interventions that will address the real challenges faced by rural women and support them in becoming confident, economically independent members of society.
