Seminar on Cyber Crime Awareness by Women’s Empowerment Cell, VJIT NSS, and Cyberabad Police

The Women’s Empowerment Cell and VJIT NSS, in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police Department, organized a seminar on Cyber Crime Awareness on 7th July 2021. This initiative aimed to equip students, particularly young women, with crucial information and preventive strategies against the increasing threats of cybercrime, especially in the context of the digital shift during the pandemic.

The seminar was graced by officials from the Cyberabad Police Department who shared insightful information on the different types of cybercrimes that have become more prevalent during the pandemic period. These included identity theft, online fraud, cyberstalking, phishing, and social media-related crimes. The officials highlighted how the sudden increase in digital dependency—especially for education, communication, and online transactions—has created new avenues for cybercriminal activities.

The session emphasized the importance of cyber hygiene, such as regularly updating passwords, recognizing suspicious links or communications, securing personal information online, and reporting any unusual or threatening behavior encountered on the internet. Practical tips were provided on how to remain vigilant and protect oneself from becoming a victim of cybercrime.

The seminar also encouraged students to take an active role in spreading awareness among peers and family members and to immediately report cyber incidents to the appropriate authorities without fear or hesitation. The collaboration with law enforcement ensured that participants gained a better understanding of both the legal framework and the support systems available for victims.

Through this initiative, the Women’s Empowerment Cell reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of women students, aiming to empower them with knowledge that promotes confidence, security, and resilience in the digital world.

This event marks another step forward in the Cell’s ongoing efforts to create an informed and safe environment for all students at VJIT.
