The Women Empowerment Cell of VJIT, in association with the institution’s commitment to promoting gender equity in STEM, organized an enlightening seminar on “Women in Engineering” on 14th September 2019 at the E-Block Seminar Hall. The event featured Mrs. G. Venkatlakshmi, Senior Scientist at ECIL, as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker.

Mrs. Venkatlakshmi delivered an inspiring address on the increasing participation and significant contributions of women in engineering and technology sectors. Citing current workforce data, she shared that approximately 42% of professionals in various engineering domains are women, highlighting a progressive shift toward gender inclusivity in technical fields.

She emphasized that women engineers are actively contributing not only to technical advancements but also to national development across sectors such as governance, livelihood, and social infrastructure. Her talk underlined the necessity of continuous performance enhancement and professional development for women engineers, to enable them to compete at global standards.

Drawing attention to the growing international presence of Indian women engineers, Mrs. Venkatlakshmi noted their involvement not only in national forums like the Federation of Engineering Organizations, but also in global platforms such as the International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists (INWES). These engagements reflect a broader recognition of their expertise, leadership, and impact.

She eloquently stated that women engineers are not only professionals, but also the torchbearers of harmony within their families and communities, striving to balance personal and professional responsibilities with grace and resilience.

In her concluding remarks, she encouraged young women to cultivate technical competence, leadership qualities, and collaborative spirit, so they can emerge as a unified force in the nation’s future development journey.

This seminar served as a powerful motivation for students and faculty alike, reiterating VJIT’s dedication to creating an inclusive environment where women in engineering are empowered to lead, innovate, and inspire.
