The Association for Computing Machinery The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international learned society for computing. It was founded in 1947, and is the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society. ACM publishes over 50 journals including the prestigious Journal of the ACM, and two general magazines for computer professionals, Communications of the ACM (also known as Communications or CACM) and Queue. ACM fosters growth in the computing community through its more than 180 professional and more than 680 student chapters worldwide. Regardless of size or location, every ACM chapter offers members a wealth of benefits, including access to critical research and the opportunity to establish a personal networking system in the region. ACM brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field’s challenges. As the world’s largest computing society, ACM strengthens the profession’s collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. Founded at the dawn of the computer age, ACM’s reach extends to every part of the globe, with more than half of its nearly 100,000 members residing outside the U.S. Its growing membership has led to Councils in Europe, India, and China, fostering networking opportunities that strengthen ties within and across countries and technical communities.
