The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (VJIT) proudly organized the Inaugural Ceremony of the IEEE SSIT (Society on Social Implications of Technology) Student Branch Chapter on October 11th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

This professional event marked an important milestone in promoting awareness about the ethical, societal, and human-centered aspects of technology among students. The newly established IEEE SSIT Student Branch Chapter aims to encourage young engineers to explore how emerging technologies impact society and to contribute meaningfully to responsible innovation.

The event brought together faculty members, students, and guests who shared insights on the significance of social responsibility in technological advancements. EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

Dr. Sagar Gujjunoori, Chair of the IEEE SSIT Hyderabad Section Chapter, shared valuable insights on “Leadership & Opportunities through IEEE” for students during the inaugural event. He emphasized the potential for students at VJIT to take on leadership roles and contribute to the advancement of technology for the betterment of humanity.

Dr. Lakshminarayana Merugu, Life Senior Member and Past Chair of the IEEE Hyderabad Section, presenting a deep dive into the ‘Social Implications of Technology – Present’ during the IEEE SSIT Inaugural Event at VJIT.

Faculty members and students are engaged in a discussion, likely reviewing project ideas and providing mentorship during the event, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

EVENT SUMMARY 

The event commenced with the Inaugural Ceremony of the newly established IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) Student Branch Chapter at Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (VJIT). Organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the ceremony took place on Saturday, October 11th, at 10:00 AM in the E-Block Auditorium.

The main objective was to formally launch the IEEE SSIT Student Branch Chapter, creating a focused platform within VJIT for students to explore the intersection of technology and its social, ethical, and environmental impact. The event aimed to inspire students by connecting them with leading IEEE professionals and introduce them to the benefits of SSIT membership.

The ceremony unfolded with a formal opening, comprising a Welcome Note, introduction of dignitaries on the dais, and the traditional Lamp Lighting and Prayer Song. The highlight of the event was the official IEEE SSIT Student Branch Chapter Inauguration, conducted by visiting dignitaries, marking the formal establishment of the chapter at VJIT. Key institute and chapter officials addressed the audience, including Mr. Shashank, the inaugural Chair of the VJIT Student Branch, and Dr. D Aruna Kumari, Secretary of IEEE SSIT Hyderabad and HOD-CSE at VJIT. The Principal, Dr. A Srujana, also delivered an address. 

The event featured addresses from distinguished industry leaders and academic experts from the IEEE Hyderabad Section. Dr. Sagar Gujjunoori, Chair of IEEE SSIT Hyderabad, spoke about “Leadership & Opportunities through IEEE”, highlighting how students can leverage the IEEE platform for professional networking and leadership roles. Dr. Ramakrishna Kolikipogu, Vice Chair of IEEE SSIT Hyderabad, discussed “HPC for the Next Generation: Powering AI, Science & Innovation”, providing technical insights into High-Performance Computing and its role in advancing AI and scientific research. Mr. Praveen Kumar Durusetti, Senior Manager at Verizon, shared industry perspectives and encouraged students to get involved in professional technical organizations. Dr. Lakshminarayana Merugu, Past Chair of the IEEE Hyderabad Section, provided context on the significance of the IEEE Hyderabad Section and the role of student chapters.

The event successfully achieved its primary goal of officially inaugurating the IEEE SSIT Student Branch, marking a significant milestone for VJIT students. The formal launch established the chapter, providing access to IEEE SSIT resources, projects, and a global network. Students gained valuable insights into leadership development within IEEE and cutting-edge technologies like High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI. The ceremony recognized the efforts of organizing student members, including Mr. Shashank and Mr. Neela Sai, through certificate distribution. Additionally, the Project Expo and Quiz engaged the student body, setting the stage for the chapter’s future activities and fostering a sense of community among participants.

The event concluded with an engaging quiz, project expo competitions followed by a Certificate Distribution ceremony, recognizing the organizing members and participants. The Co-Chair, Mr. Neela Sai, delivered a Vote of Thanks, wrapping up the successful inaugural ceremony.

VJIT is just a average clg. Its neither bad nor good thats how i felt when i studied, factuality is good, supportive bit management isn't.
