FDP on Problem Based Learning

A One – week Faculty Development Program was organized by Civil Engineering Department on ‘Problem Based Learning’ in collaboration with NITTTR, Kolkata, WB, during 2nd to 6th December,2019 through ICT mode. 14 faculty from the Civil Engineering Department, VJIT were registered for the FDP among 1046 participants at the National Level. The Program included several topics on the various approaches to Problem based Learning. The speakers of the program were Dr. Indrajit Saha, Dr. Kinsuk Giri, Dr. Sagarika Pal and Dr. Arpan k. Mondal from NITTTR Kolkata. The FDP included the sessions on Traditional learning and learning theories, why PBL and its curriculum (By Dr. Indrajit Saha), PRINCIPLES OF PROBLEM DESIGN, PBL TUTORIAL PROCESS (by Dr. Kinsuk Giri), Assessment and evaluation in PBL and grading criteria (by Dr. Sagarika Pal), Implementation Issues of PBL, Role of Tutor and Students in PBL (by Dr. A. K. Mondal) and several Case Studies were discussed by the course faculty. The FDP concluded with an online examination where the outcome of the FDP were assessed by several questions on the course content.

The FDP aims to provide opportunities to faculty members to enrich their technical knowledge in the field of teaching. The FDP also intends to develop the knowledge of participants for long term knowledge retention and transfer learning skills, develop skills to identify a problem and design an appropriate solution for it. FDP helps to monitor and assess their own learning to achieve the desire outcome.
