The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at VJIT successfully organized a three-day workshop on “Simplifying Complex Processes through Automated Monitoring and Controls,” in collaboration with IPCS Global Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad. The workshop took place from 11th to 13th September 2024, exclusively for the IV-year B.Tech (EEE) students.
Day 1: Inauguration and Introduction to PLC
The workshop commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by Dr. A. Srujana, Professor and Head (EEE), VJIT, Dr. A. Padmaja, Dean of Accreditations and Rankings, VJIT, Mr. Amit Rao Perka, Technical Head of the Automation Division and Senior Corporate Trainer, IPCS, and Dr. C.N. Ravi, Professor (EEE), VJIT. The ceremony, held in the C-Block, 2nd Floor Auditorium, began with lighting the lamp and a divine prayer. Mrs. V. Vijayalakshmi anchored the inaugural session, with the Head of the Department delivering the welcome address. Dr. A. Padmaja highlighted the significance of the workshop, while Mr. Amit Rao Perka explained its expected outcomes. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. C.N. Ravi.
The key topics covered on Day 1 included:
- Introduction and Architecture of PLC
- Different Types of PLCs and Selection Criteria
- Programming Languages as per IEC 61131-3
- Libraries, Blocks, Memories, and Registers for PLC Programming
- Practical PLC Programming
Day 2: PLC Programming and Industrial Applications
On the second day, students received hands-on training focused on simplifying complex processes through automated monitoring and controls. The day emphasized the importance of timers and counters in PLC programming.
The main topics covered were:
- Lab practice with NO/NC Ladder Programming
- Digital Instructions with Ladder Examples and Tasks
- Timer and Counter Instructions
- Industrial-Based PLC Examples
Day 3: SCADA – FactoryTalk View Studio
The final day of the workshop introduced students to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) using Allen Bradley’s FactoryTalk View Studio software. This session provided practical exposure to industrial automation and monitoring systems.

- Getting Started with FactoryTalk View SE Software
- Creating Graphic Displays and Adding Basic Objects
- Interactive Objects and FactoryTalk View SE Client Creation
- Animating Graphic Displays
- Creating and Managing HMI Tags
- Developing and Modifying FactoryTalk View SE Applications
- Creating Trends and Trend Overlays
- Configuring FactoryTalk Alarms
- PLC Communication

The three-day hands-on workshop provided students with practical insights into the automation industry, enabling them to understand and implement PLC and SCADA systems efficiently.
